Dogs. They are more attatched and feel more like part of the family. Losing a dog can be heartbreaking; losing a cat, not so bad.

That depends.
Cats are good companion animals. They also, with their ears, and turning their attention towards a door, can let you know they hear something outside, or in another room. They purr, they are ones that if taught young, can like to cuddle, sit on your lap to be petted, etc. They need food, fresh water, a clean litterbox, a roof over their head, and lots of TLC and love.
Dogs are good companion animals as well. They bark, therefore being protective of you, letting you know when somewne is approaching the door, etc. They like lots of attention, food, fresh water, TLC and love as well as the cats do. More so sometimes. They need to be taken out for walks daily (several times per day) to go out and go potty. They need a roof over their head as well.
As for which one is better-it all depends on the person looking for an animal for a pet/companion. If you live in an apt., a cat would be best, or a small dog if okayed, and there is an area for you to take the dog to go potty.
For a house, either/or/both would be good in a house. In a house, you may, for security purposes (to feel safer) want a bigger dog. One where if it barks, people know to pay attention to the barking. A cat would be good as well, due to not having to let the cat out to go potty, or if you wanted the cat to do both potty box in ouse, and outside dirt, that would be okay. The only concern is the safety of the cat. That it not get curious and get locked up in a neighbor's shed for too many days in the summertime. That happned to a gal's cat I knew. The cat disapeared, and came back about a month or so later, starved, and it's body had eaten up all it's own body fat, and was starting to eat into it's own muscle, and had to be put down.
It depends on what the person wants for a companion. Both are good animals to have. Some cats and dogs get along in the same household welll, too. Depending on personality, and age of the animals, etc.
Hope this helps answer your question. Take care.

It depends on what you like. Cats are more independent and have their own personality and only want attention when they want, most of the time. They don't always listen to you.

Dogs are loyal and faithful and needs more attention and you can't leave them for long periods like you can a cat.

I wanted a dog, but adopted a kitten instead because I didn't have a fence and I don't have the time to spend with him or her.

You should always check into the breeds before you get one.
Best wishes to whatever you decide.

well i have a cat so i would have to say that they are better because for one they take them self to the bathroom and they don't leave as much hair around the house. Don't get me wrong i like dogs to but not as much! :)

I like cats because they're soft and do not demand much attention. They also don't smell bad.

But dogs are "people" animals--they genuinely love you; they give back while cats don't. They also don't have a litter box. And they protect you. They also can be trained to do more.

My Momma told me to stay away from the old cat out in the barn, cause he eats pretty little girls like me. But that was when I was little...
Come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever seen a cat.

Anyway, my Uncle told me that his ol' dog would lick him anywhere he told him to... And he said, "Anywhere!" real twice, real loud, and it made me laugh!

So I guess doggies are better...

Really and truly it depends on what kind of person you are. If your a more affectionate person who likes attention. Dogs. If you are a more independent person. Cats.

If your house catches on fire the dog will bark and wake you. The cat will quietly sneak out the back door!
