The short answer is that WWII came about because of multiple causations over many years.
One could argue (President Franklin Roosevelt) that WWII was just an extension of WWI. It was a war that lasted from 1914 until 1945, interrupted by a cessation of hostilities from 1918 until ----take your pick ---on Sept 15 (?) 1939 Hitler invaded Poland to begin what we conventionally call WWII -- or --for the United States you could say that it began on December 7, 1941, with the attack on Pearl Harbor. By the way, Roosevelt's view was a part of the reason that he demanded unconditional surrender.
But there are other significant dates, like the Rape of Nanking by the Japanese in 1937. Like I said - multiple causation over a number of years.

For the Chinese, it started in 1931, when Japan invaded Manchuria and China. For most of the world, it started in September of 1939, when Hitler invaded Poland. For America, it started on December 7th, 1941, when Japanese pilots destroyed much of the Navy fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor.

Message to Britcop...read up on your history my friend, if the US had have entered the War in 1939 things would have been much different. From 1939 to the end of 1941 Britain stood alone...
