I started out with generic GNC brand prenatal vitamins. Then, my doctor gave me a prescription. But it doesn't help. Whenever I take them, whether in the morning, or right before sleep, I get so sick. I hardly have any morning sickness, but the only time when I throw up is about 10 minutes after I take those vitamins. What can I do? What foods can I eat to supplement for the nutrients that I am missing from my prenates? I started taking a separate folic acid supplement, which doesn't make me sick, but what about all those other vitamins and minerals, especially iron and calcium? How can I supplement without getting so sick?

The Flintstone Vitamins even if you take 2, don't give you enough vitamin support for adults....much less for an adult and growing child. In your case, I would highly recommend talking to your doctor and seeing if there is any brand that he would recommend you buying over the counter. Let him know about the brand that you WERE taking from GNC, maybe even bring the bottle if you still have it so he can take a look at it...sometimes doctors can see what is making you sick by reading the labels better than you can. Then I would go with what he recommends. Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

What prescription prenatal does he/she have you taking? My doctor tried SEVERAL of them before we found one I can take without getting sick...Cenogen Ultra. I still have to make sure I eat something when I take it, just to be on the safe side, but it's never made me sick.
Now, since you are taking a separate folic acid supplement, you could also take an easy iron supplement and a calcium supplement as well...but there are other things that your body needs, and that would be a lot of pills to take.
I would talk to your doctor about different prescription prenatals, and if all else fails, ask if you can try Flintstones Complete...they worked well for me the first go-round!

The morning sickness will go away soon, and is most likely the cause of why you're getting sick when you take prenatal vitamins. Personally, I didn't take any prenatal vitamins 16 years ago, and my son was as healthy as an ox. You just need to eat right. Prenatal vitamins are just another capitalistic way to support drug companies.

continue taking the folic acid. that's the most important ingredient in prenatal vitamins. more than likely it's the iron that is making you sick. try to find a vitamin without iron or with a much lower dose. that should help.

My doc said in the first trimester that it is okay to just take the folic acid, that is the most important thing for baby's development in that period.
For the 2nd & 3rd trimester, I took a regular prenatal vitamin, but I took it on a full stomach.
It is the iron that makes you feel nauseaus.

I'm on prenatal vitamins I got from Walmart. They require two pills once a day. After I eat breakfast, I take one with a glass of water. After I eat dinner, I take the other with a glass of water. This seems to help abate any sickness I would have gotten if I took them both at once.

Make sure you are eating healthy plenty of fruits and vegtables of varied colors to get all the nutrients. It is possible that you can't handle the iron in the prenatal vitalmins and that's what is making you sick.
