not quite sure if this is a fact but as you flush miniscule pieces of fecal matter do disperse into the air. if your toothbrush is near the toilet I would recommend to close the lid when you flush ..... ; )

So I don't fall in at 3: a.m.
and so my dog doesn't drink blue water.
So I can put lotion on my legs in the morning.
If I decide to kill my self, I can hit myself over the head with the cover , fall in and drown?
To provide a place to sit in private to talk on the phone away from the kids.
One more Damn thing to wash for MOM.

If they didn't, the seat that you sit on would get dusty. Nobody wants to sit on a dusty toilet seat...
