judging another person without knowing what they have been through or why they did something is a bad thing. but having good judgment in your own life with your own situations is a very good thing.

Hello:

The terms 'Judging' and 'Good Judgment', although are similar words, are not meant to infer the same 'idea'.

When we say that 'judging is a bad thing', the message intended is to say that we are better off not assessing the behaviors and/or ideas of others because we seldom understand the reasons behind them.

When we say 'good judgement', we refer to our decision making process and the various choices we can select from where some of those choices work toward wholesomeness and others do so on a lower plane, or not at all.

The term Good judgement is applied when we select one of those choices that serves to enchance our being, or affects our world in general or paraticular person(s) in a wholesome way.

May I ask what makes you ask this question, is there a particular situation that you are trying to address?

Regards,
Tree Man

If I am understanding your question correctly then the
explanation can be found in a double standard where
only certain people are deemed to have good judgement.
If judgement is measured to a person rather than the
person's professional characteristics then to state
the individual has good judgement is to imply that
rather than considering contingency the individual
is a good judge of all things. In my opinion, the only
way good judgement can be attached to an individual
rather than the individual's trait qualities is if the individual
has good judgement of when situations are beyond
that individual's capacity to judge; to know when
they are in over their head.
Judging things is good, but sharing hasty judgements
can be inaccurate and harmful to reputations, including
the judge's reputation. In my opinion, the most indicative
gesture of good judgement is to know when to concede
because the only individual who truly knows if an individual
is accurate or inaccurate is the individual themself.
Therefore, assuming the individual is inaccurate, to
concede is to eliminate the fog of indecisiveness which
impedes progressive examination of the concepts at hand.

Judging people is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you only accept your judgement as a possibilty and go into a relationship with an open mind. When people refer to "judging" they mean treating people differently based on what stereotypes you believe in. "Having good judgement" is more aimed towards making descision reffering to careers, where you want to live, etc. One is for humans and the other is abstract.

Being judgmental is bad, having good judgment is different. Having good judgment refers to how you relate to a given circumstance and acting appropriately.

Judging is simply discerning, weighing, an activity inherent and peculiar to the Mind, which activity is neither in itself good or bad.

Your subordinate clause, however -- beginning with the word "if" here -- is where you make a slip in bearing.

And your second, the interrogative clause, is more of a question on relativity, is it not?

Judging is not a bad thing... my understanding is that judging that which is in the Supreme Being's domain to judge is wrong.

To judge someone's behaviour as not acceptable is one thing. To judge someone as not acceptable is another.

Goes to the whole, love the sinner, hate the sin.

Peace

Judging others is not good. But having good judgement means that you have good discernment and that you know if you're being fooled already.
