I don't pay rent, but my son does. He lives in Manhattan, near the business district. He pays $3600 per month for what I term a 1.5 bedroom on the second floor. From observation, I would guess it to be about a thousand square feet.

As you will see from your various responses, rents vary WILDLY by location.

Yes, you are legally obliged to pay your rent - CCJs and bad references can make future renting a big problem. On the other hand, don't pay for electic you haven't had - so if it's £10 a week and it was off for 3 days then you pay £5.71. I'd also have a word with the tenancy relations officer at your local council as this arrangement sounds very dodgy.

California Bay Area - Apartment. 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1200 sq ft, fireplace, washer/dryer, trash compactor, AC/heat, cable hook ups, complex with pool/hot tub/rec room, 2 assigned parking spaces, spare storage, owner pays for water/trash... It's in a park in a city(not THE city, but a city).

$1,300 a month.

2 bedroom - 1-1/2 bath condo in suburb Ohio (cleveland area) location. Mortgage = $450/mo and maintenance fee of $200/mo. Homes around here are upwards of $350K. We've got pool, garage, club house, pond, and lots of peace and quiet... and no yard work to do!!!

I live in a nice neighbourhood in a Spokane Washington and I live in a Mobile home. Our rent is $240.00 a month.
