Why do young people accept second-rate treatment from older people? I am an older person and I am here to tell you that you don't stuff things up all the time.
You are kind and generous and not always thinking of yourselves.
Your contribution to this world is precious
You will succeed and do yourselves proud
I am sick and tired of the bagging that goes on against young people. You have stuff to learn? Well guess what? So does everybody. From one old fart comes this message - you go kids! You just keep being yourselves. You have flaws like everybody but you'll do me fine!!!

I think this is a great message for young people and just the boost they need. We always seem to hear about the bad things and never the good works and things that many young people are involved in. So many of them have low self esteem and I think it's because so many adults have bad attitudes towards them and don't trust them at all. I was blessed to have parents who always told me that I could do and be anything I chose. I think this is so important for the younger people to hear and to believe in themselves and their futures. They are our future so we need to mentor them more and help them to find their way in this world. Great message.

FINALLY!! Someone that feels the way I do. I'm in my 40's and constantly defending the younger generation. They have a lot going for them. It's a tough time for young adults starting (or it seems worse than when I was their age). All it takes it the phrase "kids today" by someone my age to light my fire because it's always followed by something negative. Well, I also find "kids today" to be kind and generous and worthy of acceptance and praise from the older generations.

So, thank you for this post. Very well said!

And you "kids today" keep on keepin' on! I wish you all the best!

Wow, that is very nice to hear. It often blows me away to hear baby boomers scratch their heads at gen X ers like me, claiming we're apathetic, have no values, etc. Baby boomers stepped into a world where, with a tiny bit of hard work, they could expect success and the support of most of society. Our generation can now spend $50,000 on a post-graduate degree and end up working at McDonalds anyway. That tends to give people a different perspective on life.

Anyway, sorry for the mini-rant. I appreciate the efforts to reach out to gen xers and millenials

I'm a very young 56 years old and I completely agree with you. My son is 26, graduated college summa *** laude, works hard at a job he loves and has a wonderful group of friends who support each other, do good works in their community and are sooo much fun to be around. I feel it's an honor that they tolerate an old lady like me and make me feel that they are my support group, too.

I know so many sweet, kind, compassionate, loving young people and they certainly enrich my life. And being around them is what keeps me a very young 56 year old!!!

Go gen X!!!

the oldies are always looking at the bad youngsters. that's the way it's always been. I do the same. I'm 22 and I've completely condemned my entire generation. I see nothing but fools. But there are a lot of future worthy people in my gen so I'll agree with you. You've got good spirit. I like that.

Thanks. It's good to know that all older people are not judgmental and evil. To be honest with you, I don't accept second rate treatment from old people because I just don't deal with them. I stay to myself and I don't deal with many people at all because I don't trust most older people and I am sick of being a scapegoat for everything that they perceive as a problem from obesity to global warming. To be honest, I've lost hope in most older people.

Verdi got a scholarship to music school, and was such an accomplished pianist in a day when accomplished meant "accomplished", that he was able to get a paying job playing the piano to help support himself. He was ten years old.
Be the best McDonald's ever had.

You're different, and we are thankful for an individual like you.

Sad to say, there are not many "old farts" who are like you, and that is the problem. On the flip side of the coin, there are also some "idiotic youngsters" who cause "some old farts" (not you) to feel the way to they do and to have the grudges they have towards the younger generations.

Anyway, thanks..
