In other countries, like Europe for example, the human body is widely acceptable. There are "topless" beaches where one can go and relax and let their hair down without any shame. The human body is a natural and beautiful part of nature, life, and humanity. The female breast shouldn't be something to be shamefully concealed. Will there ever come a time when people here in the U.S. will get over their prudeness and accept the female breast more openly instead of viewing it as shameful and sinful, or something not to be seen by the eyes?

For all those... "females", that commented negatively and implying I have wrong motives in my question just proves my point about how prudish this country is... and sexist!

Every society has its own standards of decency. So you might as well ask "Why should one country adopt the standards of another?" The answer is that it shouldn't, unless the people of that society believe in that standard.

While nude beaches and other such things are more commonplace in Europe, so too is the inequality of the sexes. Women earn less and have less opportunity for promotion.

So perhaps instead of asking why the breast is an offensive sight, you should be asking why Europeans impose double standards on women? Perhaps topless beaches ensure the continued stereotype of women as sex objects as opposed to fellow human beings with all the promise that their male counterparts have.

With out puritan history and the religion right coming to power, I doubt it seriously.

By the way, Europe is a continent, not a country ;-}

what country are you living in?

no, i differ with you here:

the problem with the US is that there is too much exposure of the female body; only it is exposed in shameless ways.

i dont have a problem with topless beaches. i have a problem with paris hilton getting f'd on the internet and britney spears showing her c**ch to the whole world. these are the examples our young females have to look up to and its pretty sad.

i think that that time has come. you cant expect everyone to except everything, there will always be someone crying about how unexceptable everything is. we have nude beaches here in CA.

kind of like the wardrobe malfunction during the superbowl a few yrs ago.

Why do you pick on America? Why are you not asking this question to the Muslim states. Ask all of them why they cover their women to their ankles and how stoning a women is legal if she is found to have sex outside of marriage. When you get them to answer those answers maybe we can deal with your hope that you can get cheap thrills!

I certainly hope we don't get over our prudishness. :) Then again, there are places in the world far far more prudish than the U.S.
