What kind of music do you like? learn to play the music you love, and you will enjoy it. I am a multinstrumentalist; I can play virtually any stringed instrument, and a few others that aren't stringed. But I started with the piano as a basis for all of that. The benefits of playing the piano are enormous if you like music. The music theory and discipline you when you play the piano helps in any music you play, and any instrument you wish to play. Definitely keep it up, and if you are bored with the piano, feel free to explore other instruments within your favorite genre. The Theory you learned on the piano will springboard you to new heights with any other instrument. Not to mention the fact that you never know what guy might be falling in love with your music.

There are no benefits unless you want to play.

I think she should encourage you to play, especially as you're at the age when a lot of people give up (13-16) and then wish they'd carried on. If you're unsure then carry on, but if you definately don't want to then give it up.

The benefits are you make music. Music is a beautiful thing. I'm a musician myself and I really can't tell you any more benefits than the fact that you get to do something where you can express yourself far better than words ever could.

If you're having trouble or feel uninspired try playing something completely different - jazz or 20th century (classical or popular) music for instance.

Do you love it? Is it blissful to make beautiful music, or is it a chore? If you have a gift and you can share it, it is a blessing. You could use this to make many people happy. You give of yourself when you play music. Music is one of the greatest gifts. You could take your music anywhere and play it on a portable keyboard (like a nursing home or hospice or childrens ward of a hospital) and make so many people happy. This is a wonderful thing to be able to do, and if you are good at it, I would never stop.

It is also great meditation, good for your hands and your mind. It keeps your brain growing and keeps all the circuits in the brain active. It keeps away depression, it is also something you could make a career out of if you wanted to go into music therapy.

Good luck!
