Hey guys
I have a green tiger barb fish who's tail got eaten by another fish. I put him in a different tank but, will his tail grow back??

Sure. Quarantine him and make sure his immunity is high - that means water parameters, temperature, pH are all optimum, and his water is clean. Once he gets his immunity up again his tail will probably grow back.

If you don't see any improvement, Melafix will probably work, but like mentioned before, don't use it unless you really have no choice. I also find the dosage recommended on the bottle to be a bit high. 8 drops per gallon works for me; anything more than that tends to cause cloudy water and may even lead to breathing problems for your fish.

If you treat the tank with melafix or pimafix and do 25% water changes for a week, it should grow back. It can take up to a month, but only use the treatment for about a week.
If the tail was eaten into the body, then it probably won't. Fin damage though, usually can grow back with antibiotic treatment and LOTS of water changes.

Generally speak lost fin will grow back as long as the actual flesh of the fish wasn't damaged. It takes quite a while for the full fin to regrow, but it will happen.

I would not suggest you treat the fish with any medications unless you see signs of disease. Medications generally stress fish and will only serve to slow the process unless a disease is present.

Same problem here friend.

My betta got her tail nipped severely by my male who escaped his quarentine over-night. Now she's hurting / not eating so well / unsociable etc.

But she and I've been through this before - both with serpae tetra and her male counter-part... give them time and melafix and the fins should be restored to near new condition... maybe slightly off color, but hey who cares - swimming with a tail is nothing like not.

YES, but it will take a while. Feed it protein and keep other fin-nippers away Keep the water clean and treat with conditioner at first,.
