I agree that everything you injest during pregnancy, effects the child. & if you're going to be rude on here, at least learn how to spell. Secondly, I, personally wouldn't smoke pot while pregnant, but I too know a lot of women who have, most specifically women who were pregnant in the 60s and 70s and their kids are fine, although, it's still not a good plan, being that science has given better reason and truth to not do so. Pregnancy is about the child, and if someone can't quit smoking weed, then it's a POSSIBILITY that they may not put their baby first, either.

Ok, people need to calm down. First of all there are so many studies proving that so many different things cause ADD yet they have been unable to prove that it truly exists. Second, the only way that THC will harm the baby is if you smoke it. Just the same as cigarettes, the only difference will be is that the child will NOT be born addicted to anything, like nicotine (one of the most addictive substances on this earth). There have been studies done that showed results on both sides of the issue and honestly this is NOT the best place to ask advice considering that amount of misinformation there is out there about hemp. Look at the cop in MI (a cop) who thought he and his wife we OD'ing on pot. It's impossible.

My suggestion is to do your own research and don't listen to any biased answers on Y!A, not even mine. There are enough resources that will show both sides and it's up to you to extract fantasy from reality, propaganda from fact. And I am in no way trying to tell you what is propaganda and what is fact.

BUT I do not condone smoking anything while you are pregnant or nursing. Remember that this is a little baby and what you put in your body goes into his/hers. The baby will get high as you are getting high. The unborn baby is not fully developed and it may cause problems, though a lot of these 'facts' aren't proved because pregnant woman don't volunteer to have themselves used as guinea pigs and be set up for ridicule. Nor are most women willing to admit if they smoked while pregnant.

It's accepted to have a pack of cigs a day, it's accepted to have a glass of wine a day, but if a woman thinks about smoking a joint she is labeled as a bad mom. None of it is good for the baby.

Just about any chemical on the planet has effects on your baby if you take it while pregnant. Pot is no different. It has essentially the same effects as smoking tobacco. Risk for preterm labor, small birthweight, growth restriction, increased blood pressure, etc.

I work in L&D, and I have quite a few women who admit to using it when pregnant. Not all of them are trashy - some of them are well educated and have good jobs and stable relationships and are good parents, they use marijuana socially as many of us would have a glass of wine.

While it isn't the smartest thing to do while pregnant, I don't automatically judge women who do it as being a bad parent or whatever. It takes more than that to be a bad parent in my book.

Yes, SMOKING it causes the blood vessels of the placenta to retract causing a lack of oxygen to the fetus. Same as if you were smoking cigerettes. Except a joint has 7 times more tar and nicotine in it than a filtered cigerette.
Yes, alot of woman smoke it because they have been missinformed about the risks. You see, THC itself hasn't shown any bad effects on unborn children. So you could eat the pot, or take it in tiniture form and there hasn't been any studies that shown anything bad from doing that. Same with LSD. No birth defects, no side effects on the baby.
I'm still not going to take the risk with my baby.

According to everything I have read.... It has the same side effects on your baby as cig. smoking does. Low birth weight, preterm labor..... etc... My friend smoked pot the whole time she was pregnant. Her baby was born a month early and he was only 4 1/2 pounds. The books also say it will make your child have ADD... I would recommend not smoking that or anything while pregnant.... Good luck!

Yes it is harmful, anything the mother ingests ,smokes or does has an effect on the fetus. As a neonatal nurse for the past 20 yrs I have seen the numbers of drug affected babies decline thank god. If you are pregnant and thinking about doing this dont, you can harm your baby, and social services becomes involved in all aspects of your life

Anything you put into your body while you are pregnant is dangerous to the baby, and pot is one of them. Your friend is a very selfish person. She is more concerned about her "high" that caring for the baby growing within her. At this rate, if you are concerned about the baby, wait until it is born and see what decisions she makes.... she will most likely make bad decisions for her new infant then too. At this point, I would get documentation, photos, and as much info as I could, and turn her in to authorities. The baby cannot speak for themselves and if they need protection from poor parenting, then do not be afraid to be the one to protect the child.

Sadly, many think that smoking pot is okay and won't harm the baby. Well, it harms both the baby and the smoker. Why put yourself through the risks at all, especially when pregnant?
