Of course America used to be a Republic. But things changed after 9-11. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights was destroyed and America was replaced with a "Democracy" (mob-rule).

McKenzie, do you even know what a Republic is? Do you even know what a Democracy is?

America was framed a Republic with the Constitution as its heart and life. Once that is gone America is finished.

The founding fathers studied Plato and his knowlege and wisdom regarding governments. Plato felt that a Democracy was the worst form of government because it always led to mob rule and ultimately tyranny.

You need to do some reading idiot. The white coats should be coming for your butt.

United States is a republic....Which means we elect representives to represent us....A true democracy, like Switzerland, votes on issues, NOT CANIDATES....

A democracy is the people or majority ruling.....They don't have representives making decisions, they vote directly on the issues, which would you rather have? For me its a no brainer.....

First, the concept of democracy was taken from Socrates and not Plato. Secondly, while many of our forefathers were familiar with the teachings of Socrates only from a political standpoint, many others were familiar with the moral principles contained in the Christian Bible. Much of our current governing ideas were taken from both the Bible and Greco-Roman political ideaologies.

Thirdly, it's the PEOPLE who rule (thus the name democracy from the Greek "demos", meaning "people"), which might not necessarily be the majority. Why do you think electoral colleges were formed and exist to this day.

Fourth, Mexicans are and will still be the minority even with the passage of the recently proposed immigration bill. So, where do you get your demographic facts from? California public schools?

Got news for all of you: Although not described as a democracy by the founding fathers, the United States can be seen as the first democracy. The United States Constitution, adopted in 1788, provided for an elected government and protected civil rights and liberties. America is indeed a REPUBLIC who's form of governing system is called a DEMOCRACY whether you believe it or not. Because, either way, that's what were practicing.

America is not and was never intended to be a Democracy. This nation is a republic..

"A democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for dinner....but in a republic...the sheep has a gun." -Ben Franklin

If you believe that our founding fathers wanted this country to be a "Democracy"....congratulations...you have been brain washed.

PS. Just because they tell you something in school does not make it true.

America is not a DEMOCRACY! It's a REPUBLIC....Did you miss that class in school???

Do you know the difference?? From your question you do...but...wonder how many others do. After today and Amesty Bill, one has to wonder if our congres, senate or even the president knows.

To answer your question...just a matter of time till Mexicans rule and could well be...the end of republican party!

Cheer on Libs...

No, it isn't, never has been. No, because we will not allow illegal immigrants to become legal again. The group that votes for this package will be out of politics for many decades.

This type of post is called "Tall-Tale Politics".

Exaggerate, then blame, then exaggerate incredibly, then undermine the country and it's representatives any way you can.

It's also called sedition, and it's contemptible.

Can you imagine spending time with someone who actually BELIEVES that the Bill of Rights and the Constitution were destroyed and now that made us a democracy?

White coat, please, with extra long sleeves.

And there will be a draft of able bodied Citizen sons and daughters that will be sent to slaughter in the middle east, whilst the illegal immigrant population will be working in the factories, on the farms and in the shops on the home front.

oh shut up, corrupt retired country club republicans posting with young kid avatars, all that immigration junk by republicans is to attempt to distract people away from the Billions bush is spending on this "war" in iraq, of which will never end, but great for bush and his cronies in collusion making a buck off that...complain about that

and the republicans are already terrorized and desperate as it is losing, and they know these low-income immigrants will be voting Democratic, not republican, republicans will go down in the history books as the corrupt losers they are, the only question will be why no action was taken to prosecute bush and his cronies in collusion of corruption
