Ovulation happens approximately 14 days before the next menstrual period. As ovulation approaches, your chances of getting pregnant will increase. Knowing when you ovulate will help you time intercourse that can result in getting pregnant.

Example:
May - 01 - 07 - First day of your cycle
May - 12 - 07 - A little bit fertile
May - 13 - 07 - Fertile
May - 14 - 07 - VERY fertile at this time
May - 15 - 07 - Time to ovulate
May - 29 - 07 - End of cycle

You ovulate once per cycle and the egg lives 12-24 hours. However, sperm can live up to 5 days in fertile quality cervical mucus so if you have sex anytime in the 5 days before or day of ovulation you have a chance of getting pregnant.
