Pre-natal vitamins. (okay to take even if you're not pregnant)
I used to have soft, peeling nails so I stopped using a nail clipper and only use a nail file to shape and shorten them.
I also started protecting my nails with thicker moisturizers.
I use a cuticle balm or nail oil to moisturize my nails and protect them from water since I wash my hands frequently.
(ex. Solar Oil, OPI Avoplex)
Vit E oil, jojoba oil, Aquaphor Healing Ointment, Vaseline or plain Chapstick will work too.

Despite what cosmetics companies want you to believe there is nothing that will make nails grow faster. In order to keep them healty and strong, you have to eat a well balanced diet.
Here's some info from wikipedia.org that might be helpful:
Nails grow at an average rate of 0.01 centimeters a day (1 cm every 100 days).[1] Fingernails require 4 to 6 months to regrow completely. Toenails require 12 to 18 months. Actual growth rate is dependent upon age, season, exercise level, and hereditary factors.
This growth record can show the history of recent health and physiological imbalances, and has been used as a diagnostic tool since ancient times.[2] Major illness will cause a deep horizontal groove to form in the nails. Miscoloration, thinning, thickening, brittleness, splitting, grooves, Mee's lines, small white spots, receded lunula, clubbing (convex), flatness, spooning (concave) can indicate illness in other areas of the body, nutrient deficiencies, drug reaction or poisoning, or merely local injury. Nails can also become thickened (onychogryphosis), loosened (onycholysis), infected with fungus (onychomycosis) or degenerative (onychodystrophy); for further information see nail diseases.

To make them grow you can use this green tea nail polish to make short nails grow long. And if you don't want them to brake then use a nail hardener polish. IF you use these products your nails should look fine and healthy too. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

To help them grow and healthy buy a nail hardener nail polish. It makes sure they don't break and it grows more but makes sure you file them right.
