Does anyone know for sure??? Do Simon and Ryan crack jokes? Does the audience do rounds of "the wave"? Does Paula get another shot of whatever meds she's on??? hmmmm...I wonder...

Outfit changes, hairs changes, makeup touch-ups, band getting sheet music ready for the next song... You know, normal backstage stuff.

Something certainly does go on, especially since it goes on live sometimes. I've been to TV tapings before, and during break they go over what they have to do, what to expect, what to announce, and pretty much anything too keep to show rolling in an organized manner. Of course sometimes makeup has to be re-done, people on stage have to drink water, and adjustments have to be made to video and audio quality if needed.
TV shows look simple when being watched, but being made is very complex and busy.Crews in every area have to hussle to make the show run smoothly without any interuptions or mishaps. The audience also gets a break and can sometimes interact with the people onstage...by talking only of course. Its about keeping the cameras rolling while following an organized script/directions.
I forgot to mention, about Paula taking her meds, Simon and Ryan cracking jokes, and the audience doing the wave..yeah, its possible. Whatever keeps their minds settled and positive. If they know what to do then yeah, theres no harm in having fun and interacting with each other. It is a break after all. Carlos Mencia does it all the time.

The judges, Ryan, and the contestants get make-up and hair touch ups. Simon usually goes out for a quick smoke. Yes, Paula gets her dose of drugs.

I don't think anything goes on...they film it all, and them edit in a studio and just insert commercials every so often... unless they are filming it live and they just cover up stuff, then I guess all that stuff that you mentioned could happen, who knows? Maybe some day I will go and see American Idol or audition for it and tell you really what happens "behind the scenes" (really behind the commercials).

I think ryan and Simon dish it out as paula is doin' crack in the bathroom watching Randy yell "That was hot dog!"

i got to be in the audience at american idol on the one where hayley got voted of and there is a guy with a mic who walks around and trys to keep the people entertained while the stage director is talking to the contestants and stuff its pretty cool definalty one of my greatest experences
