i'm black too and i feel the same way. there's nothing wrong with you, you should be proud of yourself for taking a stand. there is something wrong with the ignorant girls who listen to songs that degrade them and like to dance to them.

No of course not.
You have good reasons for not liking rap and hiphop.
If foul language and remarks that are degrading to women offend you or make you uncomfortable, then it is your right to not listen to it if you don't want to.

Maybe try to listen to the beat or the music itself instead of the lyrics..I do that alot with that kind of music..I really like a good beat in songs..I can tune out the lyrics sometimes and feel the music...it's worth a shot..but if you don't care for the music as well as the lyrics, then so what!
Listen to what you want!

I like all kinds of music, a lot of rock and metal which has a lot of cussing in it sometimes. But for some reason rap music bothers me too, not all of it, but some of it does like Too Short and D12. They say some very "wrong" things sometimes...

And also, hearing about "Grillz" and "Big Booty Ho's"
Gets annoying. It sounds like they can't really write a song that has emotion to it.

Of course, it's all a matter of personal preference!
Who cares if you don't fit in with other "black" people.
Just because you are black does not mean you have to listen to rap, hip hob, R&B etc..

There is NOTHING wrong with you, and don't listen to the little twits on here, who can't even spell, who think there is. I am white, and I don't like all white music either. Why listen to music that puts down who you are (female) and promotes violence. If you want to hear a string of swear words, you can just say them yourself. It might make you in the minority, but I think in many ways it puts you a step above. You aren't mindlessly following other people, you are being your own person.
I am not sure who you are trying to fit in with. If it is your friends, they should like you for who you are, not what music you listen to. If they aren't your friends, you don't need to fit in. Do you really want to fit in with people who pay money to hear cussing and degredation of women? Is a song really a song if it is mostly swearing put to mostly a beat?
You have your own tastes. If you aren't running around telling everyone else what they should listen to, then why should anyone tell you what you should listen to?
Be yourself. You will be the one who stands out in a crowd for all the right reasons. And being yourself makes you a cut above those who follow along just because everyone else is.

You're not weird at all. You follow the message, not the style of music, which is a lot more than some people do.

Check out the first link below for a ton of online Christian rock stations that maybe you hadn't heard of yet. :-)

Since when did the melanin content of skin begin dictating taste in music?

If you have an appreciation for different kinds music and don't just listen to something because everyone tells you to, it usually means you have a mind of your own. Last I checked, that was a very good thing to have.

Advertisers and politicians have no idea with what to do about people with minds of their own... keep it up!

No its not wierd. You have a personal preference that doesn't include hip hop. You shouldn't feel wierd there are millions of black people that don't listen to hip-hop around the world. Don't let music define your ethnicity, your black and you know it thats all that matters.

To be fair, ALL rap music does NOT degrade women. Will Smith and LL Cool J made a point to avoid such ignorance. Its a shame that they are among a very few "artists" in that genre.

you're precise yet i quite do no longer think of there is an answer to your question. Its like human beings purely kinda mixture in with what's already occurring and commonly black human beings tend to take heed to greater rap, hip Hop and RnB and white human beings on the entire hear to different forms of song so human beings purely pass with the flow and keep on the with the traits that already take place. additionally i think of in intense college human beings tend to charm to to those that're greater like themselves i assume to slot in because of the fact its lots larger and there maximum of greater categories of persons and that's while communities start to form and specific human beings start up performing like and doing an identical issues because of the fact the human beings they're blending with daily.

Nope, not at all. My sister listens to Christian rap for that same reason. You only like the music that connects with you and parallels your point of view. Do you.
