This is how you need to connect your hardware.

-Phone Line from Wall to your DSL Modem.
-Ethernet cable from your DSL Modem to your wireless routers WAN (Internet Port)

Turn on your DSL Modem and your wireless router.

For the first time setting up your router it is best to connect your laptop to the router using a ethernet cable. Plug one into your laptops ethernet port and into the routers #1 ethernet port.

On your laptop open a web browser and type in your routers ip address in the address bar. Netgear usually uses 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, confirm this in your manual. The manual will also tell you the default username and password to access the router.

Now find the WAN section of the routers configuration and select you internet connection type. DSL usually uses PPPOE and you will also see a area to type in your ISP username and password.

Find the Wireless setting section and name your router in the box labeled SSID. Dont turn on wireless security yet until you get everything working.

Save your settings and that should do it. Unplug your laptop and turn on its wireless capability and you should see a list of wireless networks in your area. Select the one you named and hit connect. That should do it.

After you verify you can get on the net then I would suggest you turn on WEP or WAP security in the router and choose a security key. This will keep your neighbors from leeching your internet connection.

Everything above is correct but you must have it hardwired to your computer to set it up.

you can use it...and it is right...but you will need to connect it through a cable to your laptop first. So phone line to DSL modem to router to computer. Then go through the set up disk that came with it. you can set it up wireless and then disconnect the cable from the router to the computer.

Yes it can be hooked up. If you have the cd that came with the router, run it and it should give you step by step as to how to hook your router to your laptop. I know that your router has to be connected to your DSL router to get the internet connection.

it's plug and play!just connect your dsl modem into your wifi router(should be a ethernet cable),then bam! your laptop should detect the wifi signal.also, sometime you cant receive any signal for some reason, just go and reset the router and modem, then BAM!back online.btw, the only bad thing about this is that someone can pick up your signal.

this is simpler than you think, but your neighbors can get your router's signal; so I would strongly recommend using the net gear WEP encryption feature, this will only allow only your computer it to connect to the router. even if your neighbors tried to connect their computers won't get the signal because it is encrypted. You simply need to decide how strong of an encryption either 64-bit or 128 bit. I live in a house, but encrypted my connection because the house next door was getting a free ride using my connection! Just be aware of that
