Humans are not capable of governing one another perfectly. Thus, the form of government that works most effectively is anarchy.
Please note that anarchy means that no person is governing any other person, so that all people have the same authority. It does not mean chaos.

Anarchy would be ideal, but if you were to suddenly erase all governments and borders from the earth people would have no clue what to do, resulting in complete chaos. For anarchy to really work, people need to never be exposed to government or any form of borders, rules, and pretty much have no interaction with people, which totally defeats the purpose.
Therefore, we must simply live with the fact that a majority of people simply don't understand that whole "love thy neighbor" stuff. I see religious people all the time, loving some neighbors but not the hindu three doors down because they're different.
Simply put, people as whole suck, and we just need to suck it up and deal with that "unfortunate but necessary" thing called war just because people drew an imaginary line down the middle of a continent. Yup?

Sweden and Norway and Denmark have some pretty good examples. If only people would wake up and realize they have been brainwashed to believe that USA is the best. A US hospital stay can wipe you out financially but that doesn't seem to bother people believing it's the greatest country. Just empty your bank account the next time you end up in the hospital. It's coming. Brace yourselves.

Any government with effective leadership works.
Its shown over history in one point or another. There have been great kings, great presidents, and the country flourished under them. Its not about the form of government. Its about the people that make the system work.

i may be naive as well,..but all history is full of 'governments' that worked for a while, that satisfied the population they governed, but then too, every one of them reached the point of self-serving,... and collapsed.
The 'trick' of government is civil nobility, when that gets lost in the working of a government, things go south in a hurry. [relatively speeking... civilization has only been availing its self to 'government' for a few thousand years...unless you want to include 'tribal' or 'related' in your context..]
Perhaps we are a barter species, not an industrial one. The longest lived 'governments' were principally balanced on some sort of barter,...not that that was any more immune to collaps,..just they lasted hundreds of years before their functionality congested or met insurmountable impediments.
,,,one that works...?... mm... "local". .. .. "community". .... the rest are all politically motivated and self generateing. [not to mention self serveing, self promoteing, self proclaiming, self agrandizeing, and prone to corruption within. ]
It takes a LOT of human resorce to sustain a 'government'.... resorces that might better serve those who are being 'governed', as far as i can discern.
England in the dark ages is a fine example of a population abandoning it's 'government'... and from that caose rose the realization that government was not sanctified without a populations support.
Live and learn, i guess. Aparently, we arent finished [yet] watching a few governments today, who are re-learning that historic lesson...the hard way.

Self-Government definitely doesn't work even though that's the most enticing one. Check out your own life and how you've managed it. Government is a necessary evil, and we really do need someone to tell us what to do in the long run.

Plato would say Aristocracy is the best form of government. I, however, find that it doesn't correspond to human nature. We're made to ponder the color of underwears of people and eventually decline in intelligibility.

We supply you with a daily supply of fresh water, and handle your sewage problems, all with the turn of a handle, or the flush of a handle. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. For many, many years.

Government is for those who choose and who need to be governed. I'm a big boy who doesn't need a government to run my life.
