You must be talking about the Black Hills....

They're considered to be sacred to the local tribe (that's the Ogallala of the Lakota)...

the hills are also the home of the biggest motorcycle rally in the world: Sturgis.... they are also famous for their caves: wind & jewel...

The Black Hills are on the Western end of the state. It is where Mount Rushmore is located. For the most part, east of that is flat, tan colored nothing.
