It is the complex nature of emos, the paradox of wanting to be in touch with who you really are, yet not ready to share who you are with the world because it is more fun to keep them guessing..it is all part of the entire emo experience.

Maybe they're ashamed because they don't want to be considered "emo" or because it's becoming the new "goth," (Whether you want to believe it or not). Some emo kids aren't into the suicide obsession or the whiny angst that is associated with alot of emo kids; some are just into the look or some don't even know what the hell emo is all about, just that they're thrown into the category clique because they look a certain way. It's a trend. It's a label. Alot of people are turned off by labels.

hmmm well ive been called emo alot and deny it....because im not. i think its the fact that they are widely unnaccepted by other cliques (hxc, scene, etc.) && i think it is harder for guys because as you know guys arent supposed to show their emotions. its also the misconception that they cut themselves, && stuff.
