Shes not having a period. There is no way you can "set off" a period through sex. Its a completely different process. The most likely cause is a slight vaginal tear. If she just recently started having sex this is common, but mildly painful. Vaginal tears occur when there is not enough lubrication and the friction of intercourse causes the skin to rip. Just like any other cut it will bleed, because the skin in this area is very sensitive and full of blood vessels, it may bleed more than you would suspect.
Two things you can do... make sure she is FULLY comfortable. She may she is but even the slightest reservations in her mind may cause her to be uncomfortable. When she is not comfortable, it is hard for her body to create natural lubrication and the dryness will cause tearing. If she really is comfortable then she may just not produce a lot of lubrication naturally, so buy some. Astroglide at target. Cheap, works well and will stop the tears. Use it BEFORE intercourse starts and add a little along the way if dryness continues. Do not use when your almost done, because if she is already torn then it may sting.
She also needs to go get a pelvic exam now. Once a female starts having sex they need to go in once a year for an exam. This is EXTREMELY important.

I always worry that post coital bleeding is chlamydia- you said you are the only person that she has been with but have you been with other people? Are you using condoms every time and for the complete act? I do not think that you set off her period but it is possible that she is bleeding from ovulation although it sounds like it is a little early in her cycle for ovulation if her period was one week ago. If this continues she needs a exam to check everything out.

Your question doesn't really clarify if it was the first time she had sex. If she was not a virgin, and has already had her period this month, it could be a little concerning. If it happens again, she should go for a check up just to be sure. Spotting between periods (even after sex) can be a sign of something more serious. Best wishes!

Most of the time after the hymene breaks then it'll only bleed for a while. It should've stopped by now. She probably needs to see a doctor right away because this could be serious. Good luck Sweetie!!!!

Even when you finish your heavy flow and no longer need anything to soak up the blood, there can still be some slowly seeping out. Mostly, it's not noticable, but sex can "clean it out" if you will. Don't worry, that's most likely the case.

If she has not yet had a gyn exam, this would be a good time to start.

if she was a virgin you 'popped her cherry' in other words her hymen, if not then you could have had rough sex or she was due for her period
