As I understand the mainboard must support the FSB of the CPU and the memory must run at the same speed as the the FSB.

So how do you work this out when an Athlon64 doesn't have a front side bus?

there are cpu,m/b,ram sets available on pricewatch. or you can sometimes find basic p/c on e-bay with the m/b,cpu and some ram and a little h/d and up grade it yourself. that's how i assembled my desktop.

Memory modules have SPD. BIOS reads it and sets the speed and timings AUTOMATICALLY. BIOS also adjusts everything up to the level that it supports. Just load fail-safe defaults then tweak the settings later.

Check out the AMD web site and match up your CPU with the proper motherboard.

Checkout the web site of your motherboard maker and match up an AMD CPU

Even if they don't match out of the box, you can normally reset the jumpers so they do match.
