not only can you but it is your civic duty to report it. there are serious charges related to writing bad checks and they are there for a reason. if the check was written intentionally there is a good chance the person who wrote it will serve some jail time.

If somebody forged checks on your account, you should notify your bank immediately. The bank will ask you to sign an affidavit of forgery, and, of course you will agree to cooperate in a police investigation. The bank will usually reimburse your account immediately. Work with your branch manager and the security officer at the bank. They will coordinate matters with the police. Often forged checks are passed in different jurisdictions, and that often involves multiple police departments.

There are often times in which family members forge checks. It is not unusual for daughter to forge mom's name on checks. If this is the case, mom *must* cooperate with a criminal prosecution or the bank will not reimburse the account for the loss.

If the checks were drqwn on your account and you didn't sign them, first notify your bank. They will verify your signiture and then go to the police and file a report. Happened to me once. After the police verified with the bank that the signature wasn't mine the bank reimbursed my the money. That's why you sign a signature card when you open an account. Supposedly the bank is suppose to verify the signature on every check; Yea, right. That's why they reimbursed me. They failed to verify.
