Ok...here's the deal. My wife and I are about to have our first baby. She wants to be surprised. I don't, but we did agree to be surprised together. I'm just too anxious! We went in to get an ultrasound. The baby is 18 weeks. The doctor knows that we want to be surprised, so he showed us majority face shots of the baby. He did show one part, and was silent during that part. That particular picture showed the thigh, and the bottom region of the baby. I thought I saw an "outie" (read between the lines...lol). Anyways, I'm curious, and I want to know. Can I find out the sex of the baby just by looking at the structure of the face, since the structure of the face is different for boys and girls? Thanks in advance!

Facial differences are not apparent in infants. It is not until puberty that differences really start to become apparent.

Well men and women do have different thing about their face that makes us different like the jaw line (boys are wider and girls are more pointy) but its very hard to tell in the womb because it kind of tight in their. But if you really want to know wait until the time when you find out the sex and ask the doctor to tell you and keep it from your wife just ask her first. As for the outie you can't really go by it because it can be a penis or the umbilical cord. So I don't know what to say but if you both decided to be surprise then be surprise with her and at the end you will be happy. Sometimes the best surprise is the one you wait for

No, not usually. The way they determine whether you have a boy or girl are three lines for a girl and ( of course) a penis for a boy. Both boys and girls share the hereditary from the parents so it could be possible the girl gets a strong jaw or the boy gets long lashes and a soft jawline. Of course sometimes even ultrasounds aren't correct. Not all boys have a distinctive (guy face). Congrats on your wifes pregnancy and your baby.
30 weeks pregnant with a girl and counting.

You can not tell by the structure of the face of the baby, even if you think you see a penis it doesn't mean its a boy; ultrasounds are not 100% accurate. When they look for a boy they look for testicles more often than a penis, and when they look for a girl they look for the ovaries and uterus. I am almost 30 weeks pregnant and I am having a girl - trust me there is no other way to tell than to look for the sex organs. There are alot of myths on "how you feel during pregnancy" that can determine what your having but like I said those are just myths, trust me!

Well... i would think not because a lot of babies faces look similar in the beginning (boys are often mistaken for girls). If you have a 'thigh' shot that is a better bet (my son's it was very obvious) but you can also mistake the umbilical cord for a boy, so it is best to leave it to the trained u/s techs to tell for sure. I'm sorry you have to wait!

regrettably there is no longer some thing you may want to do to make confident the child is contained in the right position. to make confident the child is unsleeping drink some OJ in the previous getting into in case you are able to, that enables cause them to lively. the concern with my infant is he/she keeps turning and twirlling or sticking up a foot or having their umbilical cord lay suitable by the genitals in the course of the ultrasounds LOL I unquestionably have one better united stateson 10/03, i'd be 33 weeks and we may be checking for length to be able to agenda my c-section (that's my third) with slightly of success we receives the money shot! If no longer oh nicely! perfect desires!

I doubt it. I don't think male/female bone structure actually shows enough on a scan. Besides you would have to be skilled and trained in determining male/female facial bone structure. Like the people who can get a human skull and determine race, age, and gender...that takes a lot of schooling and practice. I doubt lay-people like us can do that work just by looking at a sonogram.

Well I don't think by judging the face structure would be a definite answer to your dilemma.
Like you we didn't know the sex. We had a 3-D ultra sound at 30 weeks and wow it was amazing (highly recommend it) and almost everyone told me it looked like a boy and sure enough he was. But like I said I don't think that's a full proof way of being able to say boy or girl. So many kids could pass for either sex.

Nope, ever notice how hard it is to tell the difference between boy and girl babies!! If you saw an "outie" between the legs then you probably know what your having. My baby girl is smooth between the legs. Congratulations on your 1st baby!!

babies are pretty androgynous except for their genitalia (and can be even then!)
you can find out, if you can keep from slipping up!
i can say my son looked very much like a little man at birth.
but only because my husband has strong features.
