I think it would be a funny way to get into orbit.

It would not be worth it. Can you imagine the size of the tank you would have to have just to reach outer space?

Plus you would have the waste-stuff that was already use falling down on people creating a real havoc.

You would have everybodt and thier brothers involved, NASA, Greenpeace, the animal rights wackos, and people who complain about just to hear themselves complain.

It would be a fun idea to get into orbit, however, it is not only extremely expensive and not very effective for what it's meant to do, but also very dirty and space consuming, making it highly impractical.

There is a similar idea going on for an orbital propellant, an anti-matter matter reaction. This causes a reaction the same exact way Diet Cola and Mentos works, however, it is 100% efficient if exact quantities are used, makes no emmisions but pure energy, and is extremely powerful.

Once in space, you would not even need the mentos. Open the cola bottle and the CO2 will immediately begin to expand at its maximum rate (no air pressure to slow it down) and entrain the liquid with it as it jets out of the bottle (solidily attached to the spaceship).. Action-reaction. As the liquid jets out one way, the spaceship moves the other way... slowly (because it is much more massive than the cola).

The mentos could, perhaps, accelerate the release of CO2, but I do not know. If it does, then the liquid jets out even faster and the spaceship's acceleration would be a bit better.

"Manoeuvering thrusters, Mr. Data; Mentos boost please. Engage!"

negative..... you need to get 17 miles high to clear the gravitational pull of the Earth. I dont think there is enough cola, or mentos to produce such a strong amount of lift. Doesnt mean you shouldnt try it at least once though.

Yes. But you would need a huge diet coke, and a ginormous mentos to get into orbit.

it would be like the biggest breakthrough ever! Plus, yummy yummy! jk. I could launch my overly obsessed hannah montana fan friend up there!

Probably the reaction isn't strong enough... but maybe as a manuevering thruster...?

I'm not thinking so

That would be one messy lift off.

There is not enough energy in that fuel combination.
