how do I get windows media player to work on my notebook?

I have a newer macbook and I was trying to download windows media player for it. I know windows makes a version for Mac but when i download it, it is jus an empty folder on my desktop. how do i get it to run?

Are you sure you're downloading the Mac version? Sounds like the Mac isn't recognizing the file format of the downloaded file.
