no, i would more say that lack of love and compasion breed evil, especially a lack of true healthy self-love

No it's what balances evil acts and lets us know that it's there. We can't have good without evil or evil without good because we'd not know what either of them was. Without the balance we'd be living in a neutral emotionless limbo.
