Start with "sale" prices. This is what customers are looking for. 30% of new (or less) is what people want and are willing to pay. If you have clothes, either hang them or place in piles of the same sizes with the size clearly marked. Think of what you want to see when you go to a yard sale. Be friendly, even with those who don't buy. You WILL have people try to get stuff for nothing. Be nice but firm. Many "garage/yard salers" are shopping to resell. They make ridiculous offers. Tell them to come back at the end of the sale times.

Make sure that the items that you are selling are clean! Ask your neighbors if they have anything unique that they want to sell that will draw people in.
And I think this is the most important thing...please make signs that look professional and have good directions on them! I just saw a yard sale sign the other day that was on a 8x11 piece of paper with thinly written lettering (can't be seen from a car) that said "Yard Sale Sat". Ok, now what? Where? Which Saturday? What are the hours? Don't just put an address, you need arrows too. If you make a big enough sign, you can add what the best items are in your sale.
If you live in a city, you might want to make sure there are no restrictions on signage. Please take down your signs too after the sale.

make sure you advertise.... whether you put ads in the paper or just alot of signs, be sure to promote it. Also, it helps if you put a little detail on the signs, like the time you are holding it and your address. If you are selling collectables (such as longaberger, etc...) make sure to put that in your listing. It will draw people. You can also put it on craig's list. Another thing.... put prices on the items...you don't have to go out and buy tags, but you could use masking tape. I know alot of people who won't buy anything at a yard sale if it doesn't have a price. And even with the prices on the items, be sure to tell them that they can make offers as well. Reasonable prices equal sales. Most people don't want to pay alot at a yard sale, unless an item is brand new, and sometimes not even then. I'm sure you'll have lots of sucess! :) Good Luck.

Put out a big eye catching item. Even if it's not for sale, people will stop. This could be a chest of drawers, a nice table, etc. Just tell them it's for displaying things that are for sale. Price items reasonably. Put signs where people can see them (take them down immediately after the event). Press and hang clothes on racks. They will bring more. Make sure everything you have out there is clean and in good shape. Polish shoes, mend holes, sew on buttons. Advertise on the radio and in the paper. Be willing to wheel and deal with folks. Have fun!

try to sell items that attract many different age groups. household items will attract women, tools could attract men and young kids would love to purchase some cute toys. the more age groups you can sell items too, the more money you'll make!
also, make sure to advertise well. put up neon signs around the neighborhood to attract attention!

When I go to yardsales I like when the things on display are clean and easy to reach...with the label easy to see so you don't have to ask how much this and that is.Put some of your better items foward and hang clothes for display if possible for easy access to your browsers.

Ads and signs are important, clean items, price all items. Don't accept checks, only cash. Have enough change and someone to help. Beware of people switching prices.

Try to sell a couple big items....this is to make your money...have clothes fresh & clean....a nick knack table....fifty cent items go well...shoes clean if any.....also kitchen items sell well and tools...The time a person puts into a sale you should always try to make 200.00.
