My bf is an idiot and crossed my jumper cables while boosting his parked car with mine. my car was running, his was not. we realized it was wrong and switched them to how they should be. His car never did start, but we assumed that because it had been parked for a few months it was because of that. About a week later while i was driving my battery just died. how much will this cost, and ist that now the reason why his car wouldnt start also?

Have your battery checked; you may have just damaged it and might get away with replacing it.

Alternator died. Without the alternator to charge the battery and the car still running the battery died. Hooking up with jumper cables lets it start it but since your battery is dead and your alternator is not working as soon as you disconnect the cables your car has no power so it dies. If it has not sat dead for too long (and its not really cold) you could leave the other car running and connected to yours (yours not running) for a couple hours and that should charge the battery enough that you may be able to drive it somewhere to get it fixed but you are going to try and use as little electrical stuff as possible. Minimum lights, no heater, no radio, ect. If you can replace the alternator where its sitting now you should be able to jump it again. Leave the jumper cables connected for a few minutes then unhook them, it should stay running and start charging the battery. If you can drive it for an hour or so that should give you a full charge and things should be back to normal. I mention the temperature and how long it has been sitting dead because if you are in an area that is below freezing and your battery is dead it will freeze. A frozen battery takes a lot longer to try and charge and can be damaged by freezing.

If you were driving and the car died, then the battery is not the problem, the Alternator is. the Alt quit charging, and you ran the battery down by running the car on it. Take the Battery out, have it charged, then drive the car to the parts store and have them check the CHARGING SYSTEM. I bet they tell you the Alt is bad. And, no, BF did not kill it, not two weeks after the fact. Good Luck

yeah your bf is an idiot and you could of did some real damage too your wireing, of coarse that was the reason it didnt start his car. you are gonna have too take your car too a dealer to access all the damage that was done, but it should not cost you any thing, sue the moron that hooked it up backwards if he doesnt offer to pay 4 the damages. a little advice dont let him mess with your car anymore.

HAVE THE BATTERY AND THE COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CHECKED OUT AND YOU SHOULD ALSO GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

if his battery was completely dead, i don't think it would make much of a difference or damage your battery. Try having your battery charged and see if it will hold a charge. Otherwise, batteries can be purchased for 50-80.00 at any autoparts stores.

Check the "ALT" (alternator) fuse under the dash. or "CHG" charge.

Otherwise, your alternator is burned up.
