There is also 3 algae eater,, 2 Chinease ones and a white/yellow one, Yesterday..thursday i noticed the algae eater was swimming about with the comments and trying to suck there tails or bite it, So i woke up this morning to find that there was red blotches on the commets, So i removed the algae eatres into my QT tank and about 12 o clock today i noticed that were one of the red lumpy bits on the commets tail was part of it had torn off.. Do you think the algae eater is responsbile? I am going to the pet shop tommorow and was thinking of geting a bottle of Melafix, Do you suggest this or somthing else? And does my commets need a pond? Is this tank too small? Thanks for you help!

No doubt the chinese algae eaters are responsible, they are nasty little animals when they start to grow up and mature that cause no end of hassles. I would suggest you return the CAE's or find them a new home. I wouldn't waste the money of the Melafix, just keep the tank water clean and watch for any fungus that may develop. If fungus does develop treat then with a good fungus medication, not melafix.

Your tank is fine for the comets for now but eventually they will out grow even a 150 gallon tank and will need a pond. That should take several years though.

It's the Chinese algae eaters..no doubt. When they're small, they're great fish to eat algae. However, once they're adults, they become aggressive and tend to eat the protective slime coating off fish. Since goldies have a lot of this coating, they become a favourite food for the Chinese algae eater.
More effective is the Siamese algae eater who does not become aggressive nor sucks the slime off other fish as an adult.
Your tank is definitely big enough for the fish. At full size, they'll be about 12". The melafix or pimafix will definitely help out. You can also add a little extra dechlorinator when you do your next water change (most have stresszyme agents in them) to help build back up the slime coat.

I would probably remove the algae eaters, they are tropical if I am correct. Your comets should be fine in a 150, but im sure they would looooove a pond.

Algae eaters sadly commonly get a taste for the fish's slime coat, so they're the most likely culprit.
