During the regular season when Yao went down, Van Gundy's Rockets didn't miss a step. Their record actually got better after Yao got injured. That shows how well prepared and well coached that team was. So he lost in the 1st round again. So did Phil Jackson, but he's not going anywhere. Bad move by Houston's GM. It would be cool if he joins Riley's staff in Miami next year.

He wasn't fired, they just declined the option on his contract...which many call being fired apparently. Anyway, I think the team was ready for a change and feels they have the inside track to get another quality coach. If Jeff wants to coach next season he should have no problem finding another team. Jeff is a quality coach who will help a team win and turn its program around. Phil Jackson was fired by the Bulls after winning his 6th title for them, Lakers still in bed with him and the owners daughter...ouch!

Jeff is fired from the coaching job, he may stay in the organization with another role, but doubtful.

I'm not sure if he does "deserve" to be fired. But he did answered the age-old question whether Phil Jackson is overrated. Van Gundy has proven Coach Jackson is a Zen Master who can win championships. You need more than 2 superstars to win. You also need a coach who can win.

Houston need a change. Van Gundy can't even lead a team with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, one of the best theoretical duos put togehter, pass the first round of the playoffs. Maybe another coach would be better. Van Gundy can't even get Yao and Francis pass the first round. So Van Gundy is easily the scapegoat of Houston's problems.

I do not think he deserved to be fired, however they needed to point the finger at someone. They werent going to say it was Yao or McGrady, so unfortunately they came down on the coach. It may not even be a basketball reason that they let him go, it may just be for publicity. Yao and TMac have been a bit stagnant and I think Adelman will change that (if he is the coach).

If he can't get the Rockets to the finals - then - yeah

That's what they are there for, to get the team to the finals

Van Gundy was kind of sickly looking anyhow. I think he needed a break

it truly is the purely time he roots for the different team - maximum cases Van Gundy seems more beneficial biased in the route of the Lakers. i imagine he needs to how you'd be an independent commentator and contact the game via the undeniable fact that's.

Are you sure that he was fired?? The last info that I had said that he may be offered another position within the Rockets Organization. That could mean that he wasn't fired, but that they wanted him to make a lateral move into the offices.

Jeff Van Gundy doesn't deserve to be fired, plus he has a pretty good grip.

no he did not. if anything, the post season results should be blamed on McGrady and Yao; but of course, they dont want to break them up right?

rockets will not reach the finals with McGrady. He is inconsistent and plays without testicles when it matters. what ever happend to him seriously?
