98 dodge neon, runs off propane...I spent 1800 on the car...took it to Parkway Chrysler cause it keeps dying, when i first go to start it, it spits and sputters then it runs for a few seconds and dyes, sometimes when I start it press on the gas and put it in gear its fine, sometimes it dyes when I stop for a few seconds, other times it doesnt...they hooked it up at Parkway Chrysler... told me it could be the EGR Valve..which is going to cost 87 dollars and maybe 125 for labor...but they didn't know for sure cuz they didn't know anything about propane ran cars...there's a 10.9 gallon tank in my trunk...every now and then we smell the propane..but thats only happened 2 times....the car ran great when i first started it today, but it keeps dying...sometimes even while i'm going down the road at 45mph...Help

Yeah, I've seen a lot of cars that run on propane or natural gas.
In America It was probably an after-market kit.
Some utility or fuel companies installed them as well
In some countries, where getting and storing gasoline is difficult, propane fueled cars are the only way to go.
.
Propane is OK, except:
It makes a car hard to start in cold weather.
They do run better in hot weather.
Is more corrosive than gasoline, which can affect your EGR valve.
The propane does not lube the cylinder/piston interface and thus engines wear out faster.
Propane burns "cooler", again, an advantage in hot weather.
Propane is only useful under pressure, which means a special fuel tank and special control valves etc.
.
BUT-cars on Propane do run cleaner with far less soot and pollution.
.
If I were you, I would find a shop that can return the car to gasoline only usage.

Not enough information to give you a decent answer. Why did you take it in? Did you have a check engine light? If yes, what code did it throw? No, an EGR valve would not cost anywhere near $1,800, but if you look at the bill it will tell you what they did, and the specifics on the charge. But, bottom line is this, WE don't know, we weren't there. Talk to Parkway Chrysler and ask for an explanation.

Use to drive a company truck that ran off propane. It had no problems other than it seemed like it had less power when running on propane. It would start right up in winter however. You didn't say exactly what the problem was with the car, but you could have some dirt in the propane line and it may be causing problems. Good luck with it. I think you will like it when you get it straightened out.

natural gas more like it. Problem is not many people know how to work on those because they don't see it all that often. 1800 for an egr valve is high, I don't know about CNG, but regular gas cars, egr valves are a few hundred bucks and maybe an hour max to change out. So about 3-400
