It would probably matter little. The candidates/parties probably wouldn't care very much because they know their elections are a sham. How would the TV-land public know if no one voted? The media will announce that their preferred candidate "X" won anyway. We really have no way of verifying election results as the public isn't permitted to see the votes counted and the use of computerized voting devices has only worsened the situation.
As Stalin is reputed to have stated: "those who cast the votes decide nothing; those who *count* the votes decide everything."

No I don't agree that not voting is a great protest. The best protest is to find a candidate that is most in line with your own views and support them to the fullest in an attempt to align your politics with the rest.
You see if no one voted, there is a built in fail safe that allows congress (ie the congressional electorate) to vote a candidate into office.
VOTE! And if you can't find some one... write a name in. Some guy up in the Northeast just one an electrion with a write in campaign.
Rethink your idea. But is is an entertaining thought.
Bye

I like your intention, but the fact is that this would be a GOOD thing for them. Then they'd just vote for themselves and not have to worry about what we think. The best thing to do to protest is to start voting out incumbents. The incumbency rate in congress is well over 90%. Knowing that they have less than a 10% chance of getting voted out of office makes them less motivated to do what we want them to do.

It be best to protest first, you know? a much smaller percentage of the population votes in the US than in most other countries. Truth is dissatisfaction is rampant and the government does not care. You have to make dissent visible. So go out and take back your streets.

The politcians we have today would be as happy as clams - they could get (re)elected and continue raiding our national treasure without consequence or fear of being unelected.
The fewer people who do vote, the fewer it takes to influence (or bribe) to win a majority of the votes.
Being a senior who votes in all elections, I know my votes count a whole lot more than others because the others aren't voting - politicians know that and I constantly remind them of that.

Then Simon Bar Sinister and his sidekick Cad would cast the only two votes, and Simon will be elected Dictator.
