Your body has a monthly rythmn of menstruation and fertility. There are actually only a couple, three days in the middle of your cycle when you can get pregnant. These days can be mapped very accurately, and even moreso now with technology (basal thermometers, fertility test kits similar to pregnancy test kits).
If you abstain from sex during those few days every month, then you are using the rythmn method.

It means not having sex in the middle of your cycle, as in from Day 10 to Day 16 of a 28 day cycle, because that's when you're most likely to ovulate. However 24% of people using this get pregnant within a year because everyone simply doesn't ovulate at the same time every month. It's about as effective as pulling out, which gets 26% of users pregnant. There is a more "high tech" version of the rhythm method these days in which women track thei basal body temperature, check what kind of cervical mucus they have, and use ovulation predictors to see whether or not they are fertile, and based upon that they don't have sex at certain times because of the likelihood of pregnancy. I say what's wrong with condoms or birth control, if you absolutely do not want a baby?

It is only having sex during your cycle when you're not fertile. I imagine you're a teenager and if that's the case, there were many forms of birth control in "her day" including birth control pills. They have been around for over 50 years!

It is a method used by people (usually called mommy and daddy) to prevent conception by avoiding sexual intercourse during those days when the woman is considered to be most fertile.
It is similar to playing Russian Roulette with a loaded automatic.

It is the pull out method, and don not rely on it for birth control. Pre-ejaculate contains sperm, so you can still get pregnant.

It means having sex during the part of your cycle that you are least likely ovulating, and least likely to get pregnant.
Catholics use this method and they average about 10 kids a family I think.
