Never, never ever add any of the "keytones" to gasoline!
Acetone especially is very corrosive to petro-based seals and metal, and can lead to major problems.
.
Adding anything that produces less BTUs to gas will have the effect of raising the octane. The higher the octane rating the slower and more completely gasoline will burn. Butane is most commonly used today.
.
BTW---Most , if not all octane boosters, contain butane! Butane is really cheap, unless you buy it at an auto parts store. LOL
.
Unfortunately, if your engine wasn't designed to operate on high octane you are wasting your money and in fact doing nothing good to your motor.

I used it for 6 months and had no problems.
People have done tests where they have left rubber pieces in a tub of acetone and two years later the rubber is fine. Todays cars use a very hard and corosion resistant composite rather than soft rubber from an eraser. The ones that are telling that rumor are just repeating what they have heard. Like the guy that posted after me.
BTW, I picked up 1.5 mpg using acetone. I couldn't eplain why though, so I stopped using it. heh.... May be time to go back to it with these gas prices.....

First question, does the motor vehicle blow smoke once you first initiate it, then end after it runs for a jointly as? definite> get rid of the valve cover(s) and poke a chew of twine for the duration of the drain openings on the proper of the pinnacle. what's in all hazard occurring is oil isn't draining back into the oil pan leaving a valve stem submerged. The seal isn't meant to hold oil back in this concern. No: proceed get rid of the breather, or air intake ducts each and every of the previously to the carb, or air intake plenum and look on the aspects for signs and warning signs of oil. If signs and warning signs of oil are present day, sparkling them and replace the constructive crankcase ventilation valve, and if equipped oil sponge. next step in diagnostics would be to have a compression attempt achieved. A compression attempt permit you to comprehend if it quite is a broken head gasket. next, i'd replace the valve stem seals, and force it for each week to work out if that replaced into the situation, and finally i'd replace the seal on the intake manifold despite if it quite is a V-form engine because of the fact it may reason this situation too. Get as much as now and the situation isn't fastened, it quite is now in all hazard that your jewelry are permitting oil into the cylinders.

Acetone will dissolve almost anything organic. If you want to find out if you have any non synthetic seals in your system, go ahead and try it. When you're blowing gasoline all over the engine compartment, you'll have your answer.
