Ensure the bedroom dark enough, wear eye mask if not.
Don't sleep with the bedroom door open in warm weather.
Try to get to sleep at the same time each night.
Don't take caffeinated drinks 2 hours before bedtime.
Have a bath before bedtime.
Don't think about work in bed, plan a holiday etc.
The saying an hour before midnight is worth two after is true.

How much sleep do you get? And do you have insomnia or sleep apnea that would interfere with getting a good night's rest? Do you wake up feeling refreshed? Does your partner complain to you about snoring? If so you could have sleep apnea. You could have insomnia if you have trouble falling asleep, or staying asleep or waking up too early. To get a better quality of sleep don't watch TV or go on the computer at least one hour prior to bed time. Take a warm bath with nothing but candles to light the room is a nice soft natural light. This will help relax your body and mind. When you get into bed read a very boring book like Chemistry etc. Hope this helps.

Promote sleep with relaxation techniques and other lifestyle changes
Avoid certain foods and drinks
Discover patterns in your sleep habits
Consult your healthcare provider for help in understanding and treating your sleep problems and ask if medications are right for you
Three things you can try right now
If you are having trouble sleeping, the following tips might help:
Drink a glass of warm milk. It turns out there’s a scientific basis for your grandmother’s old-time remedy. Milk contains tryptophan, a chemical that may promote sleep in some people.
Have a light snack, but only if you’re hungry. Going to bed hungry can affect your sleep. High-carbohydrate snacks, such as crackers, pretzels, or a plain bagel, are good bedtime snacks. But be careful not to overeat; indigestion can interrupt sleep.
Stay out of bed until you feel tired enough to go to sleep. Whenever you’ve been lying in bed for 20 minutes and can’t fall asleep, go into another room and do something relaxing, such as reading a book. Return to bed only when you’re sleepy.

Have a warm, relaxing bath with lavender about 1 or 2 hours before you go to bed. Listen to some relaxing music and read a book for a while, until you feel sleepy. Don't eat anything before you go to bed. Hope this helps!
