Stephon Marbury hands down. Was Stockton a better player for his time? Yes, but players today are so much more athletic and stronger. Steph is took quick and strong for Stockton. Don't underestimate Steph's ability to hit shots. He could shoot or blow by Stockton. On offense, Stockton wouldn't be able to take Steph to the basket. He'd have to rely on heavily contested jump shots.

Yes, Marbury is a better slasher to the basket and a bit quicker and Stockton's passing wouldn't be important in a 1 on 1 game. However, Stockton is also the all time leader in steals and a great defender...something Marbury has never been. Stockton is also a much better jump shooter then Stephon. You add it all together and Stockton has a better chance then you may want to think. And don't forget Stockton was used to guarding big guys like Magic Johnson and Penny Hardaway at times in his career.

I am a HUGE Jazz fan and John Stockton fan. But, in this scenario I would have to go with Marbury. Steph skills are more suited for a one-on-one game. He is bigger, stronger, and has better dribble penetration moves. 3-on-3 i would go with Stockton, but not 1-on-1

Stockton by far, Marbury is very overrated, notice how anytime he is on a team with any other star his is irrelevant. Stockton on the other hand played right beside a fellow top 50 player his entire career. If Marbury looks like a good player its just because he is surrounded by trash in New York.

i would like to pick stockton..quick hands, probably take the ball from the 'cup dribbling' starbury a few times..star would try to back himdown, probably with some success..but stockton is a much better defender than people give him credit for..plus he is quicker than the star and not having to give up the dribble he would probe till he got by then go to the 'jumper'...but after going on a scoring spree star would pull up at the freethrow line for the game winner and miss just as he did when he choked on the 2 free throws against the sonics this year,,win to stockton...

Stocktons strengths were passing not scoring huge amounts of points.

Marburys strengths are scoring and his selfishness pays off here.
