this is about a mother (not me) wanting to take a father back to court because he can no longer meet his visitation schedule for friday nights as originally set in the papers, years ago. he'd asked the mom if he could, instead, come saturday mornings, but she is throwing a hissy fit...

Not necessarily. Court cost are decided by the Judge. You have the right to ask the Judge to please waive court cost. Or you can ask to Judge to have the other party responsible for paying them.

Not normally (maybe court cost, but not your attorney's fees). You don't have to hire a lawyer and fight it, you could just agree and not go to court. Then you wouldn't incur any costs, so since it is your choice to fight it, you are responsible for any legal fees you have. They have a right to request a change in custody if they want to or request a change in the visitation schedule. It doesn't mean they will get what they are asking for, or that it's even the right thing to do, but they are still a parent.

Yes, they are responsible. However, if you hire an attorney, that attorney will likely charge you for any necessary court fees associated with the case.

Not in this country. The common law (as in UK and other common wealth nations), the loser of the suit pays the legal fees for both sides in order to discourage frivolous lawsuits.

The dog shouldn't be sold no matter what. If they go through all the trouble of a custody hearing, then the dog is clearly more than a pet to them. I say joint custody.

More than likely it will be determined by the judge and it can go either way.....If you are referring to your attorneys fees the answer is no you will always be responsible for those.
