Whether or not to send your children to public vs. private school just depend on your evaluation of the schools in your area instead of the general opinion of public vs. private.

I went to a public school for grades k-11. It was the top school in the state. I was prepared, above and beyond, for my senior year at a private school. In fact, I felt like I was back in grade school because I accomplished my senior year with such ease. Now I am in college and I am SO thankful that I went to the school I did.

Take your time and evaluate the different schools in your area. See what the pros and cons of each are and how their system works. Find what you think will work best for your child and remember that your choice isn't perminant. If you try something and it doesn't work out the way you planned, do something different the next year.

Sounds like a lot of discontent with the public school system, but no solutions to the problems. Private schools are not the solution to improving education, as the vast majority of our people can not afford to send their children to private schools.

People that have a problem with the public school system need to address their school system about the problems and offer solutions, or at least recommendations on how to improve the system.

Your school board meetings are open by law. Most require that if you want to address the board that you notify them in advance so that they can put you on the agenda, but they can not deny you the right to address them.

Remember, don't just complain, offer recommendations to improve the areas that you are concerned with, whether it's the quality of education or the school districts fiscal responsibilities or whatever.

I went to both private and public schools and have to admit my education in private school was much better. I don't have children, but if I did I would work three jobs instead of the two I already work to make sure they got the best education possible.

I send my kids to public school. And they're getting a good education. But we have friends who home school or go to private schools, usually for reasons of faith.

Truthfully, any school will do a good job of educating your kids if YOU are active and involved in their education. School is a groundwork: YOU have to fill in the gaps and teach them things that schools don't, like morals, ethics, and responsibility. You have to work with the teachers. If you show them your support, they will support you in return by giving your kids the best.

Of course, Horns/Halo up there just gave a great example of what's WRONG with today's public schools. Capitalization? Punctuation? Run-on sentences?

Maybe you are right, public schools ARE useless, if that's the best they can do, and she thinks it's 'all right.'

I believe anybody who has taken an honest look at public schools is afraid to send their children there. I'll happily drive an old car and stay in the house we're in to pay for my kids to go to a private Christian school. (It's not a matter of "only the rich can do that", it's a matter of priorities)

Yes. Our schools are not safe any longer. Angry kids with guns, drug dealers, and lazy or blind authority figures make an explosive atmosphere in public schools. Teachers use their positions to manipulate children into believing what the teachers want them to like God doesn't exist, conservatives are evil, parents are stupid and abusive, liberals are perfect, and money and sex especially sex are wonderful and should be desired above all. I think homeschooling is the best way to go.

Private Schools teach similar things. The only difference is paying 6 figures to play dress up.
