In some cases, yes it is. When there are cameras on top of traffic lights it's easier to catch those who speed and giving them a ticket will teach them not to speed again. However, if there are cameras in some places and not others it just teaches criminals not to do crime in those places. Also, it's not a matter of the crime, it's also a matter of enforcing justice onto the criminal. You can have all the cameras in world but if you don't go about trying to catch the criminal then it is pointless.

Furthermore, crime is not always done in a public place. Most times rapes are done in a person's home, or a person would more likely be beaten in an alley than on the sidewalk.
Perhaps if more people looked out for one another and DID something during times of injustice we wouldn't need cameras.

I think surveillance cameras in public places are great providing they are not in the restrooms, tanning rooms, etc., but they should be at the doors as you enter the restrooms of clothing stores or other stores that merchandise can be taken. It helps deter crime and for those who still try it gives the store a better chance at catching them with video.

I am all for it. There are several in my neighborhood and it makes me feel safer. I have heard that they do help solve crimes. Also, a man who was serving a prison sentence for rape was recently exonerated because a surveillance camera proved that it was not he who had committed the crime. It seems like a win-win situation.

They have helped catch several criminals who committed crimes in front of them.

I would like things set up so that cameras placed by law enforcement can be viewed by the public. IE, those cameras that are on busy intersections can be tuned in via the internet, or on your local cable access station.

of course. I see surveillance video clips each of the time on the info inquiring for practise on who the guy/persons is/are, with rewards presented. and also information about it some days later protecting that they have arrested the suspects. i'm confident they purely teach the flicks over the info that the police are having a demanding time figuring out. So i'm confident that so much better human beings are arrested because of the actuality that they were stuck on video committing a criminal offense than I see on the info.
