This is happing in NJ... Passaic, Clifton, Cataret etc... The reason why I ask is cause my sister in low received one about 5 months ago and she did not know that they were going to see what she use the money for.. So she used it to pay a electric bill, CS find out and cancel one of her checks.. and they do see what u use the money for..

Paying an electricity bill is a valid use of child support. Child support is meant to help the custodial parent keep a home for the child (which includes electricity), along with feeding, clothing, educating and entertaining the child.
I cannot imagine that anyone is tracking the use of this money, though, or that they would want to. I would imagine that regular banking privacy laws are in place the moment the money is deposited into the custodial parents account.

Child support can be used for: clothing, food, entertainment, rent, utilities, transportation, medical care, gifts, childcare and more!
I SERIOUSLY doubt that anyone goes through each and every line item to determine the usage. Now, if you have a charge to Liquor Town then I'd question that. Other than that, I don't see the point.
For those of you who think all mothers/custodial parents use child support for their own personal gain, it should be noted that in MOST cases, the woman/children's standard of living goes down, and the man's goes up. If a woman and two children live in a home, 2/3rds of ALL the living expenses can come out of the children's child support.
That means if their rent/food/electric, etc., comes out to $1200 a month, then $800 a month from the child support can reasonably be applied. On top of that, all the children's clothing, shoes, entertainment, etc., are valid uses for child support. Considering that the maximum amount of income contributable to child support in my state is only 25% of a man's income, it seems to me that there is no way any non-custodial parent can provide enough income to cover the real expenses.
If the custodial parent follows the above guidelines and he or she happens to have a job and puts aside money into a savings account and then goes and gets plastic surgery or WHATEVER, that doesn't mean it was with the child support money!!!!

I know in Florida they started offering the debit card or Direct deposit. I did direct deposit no waiting for check....I didn't like the idea of the debit card since I like all my financial stuff to stay private. Hey what happens your child support is late one week and you have to pay daycare or something out of my regular paycheck well guess what once that money comes in I have to pay whatever bill I needed to pay before regardless. Some women out there do collect childsupport to pay for their own extras and that is not right but I am sorry allot of my expenses are higher because of kids. a one bedroom apt would have lower rent, electric bill and water. Even credit cards. You should really get it changed and cancel the debit card. It is not right for them to monitor your spending with out you knowing!!

Forget about child support. I have never been able to get Social Services to collect child support from my X on a consistent bases in the last ten years. SS and gov.'t don't really care about the children. The only people that get there money is the lawyers.

That's new. I've never heard of getting child support in a debit card. I don't think it's so they can know how you're spending the money. It's probably so they don't have to deal with mailing checks and lost checks.

Child support can be use for anything such as buying food, clothes and things you and your child needs to live off of. I never heard of getting a debit card. Here in CA you still get a check and you can have it go direct deposit into your bank. So that is new to me. And I work in family law as a Lawyer.

because it is easier than checks and safer. if it gets lost/stolen they can put the money back after a quick investigation, if your check gets lost/stolen you wont be seeing another for weeks.
ummm it doesn't sound like thats child support money. They can't not let you pay electric with it. It sounds like you sister in law has did or did not do something and now they're watching her.

It is due to the fact that some were using food stamps to make small purchases and getting money back in return. They then would use that money to purchase things such as alcohol and tobacco. So a few dishonest people made it tougher on the rest.

Finally, somebody has come up with a way to make mothers who receive child support accountable for where the support money actually goes. Youre exactly right in your accessment. Boy will this make alot of fathers paying support happy and now many kids out there may just get what is due them. For one, Im greatly impressed and can only hope this idea catches on everywhere.

Never heard of this. Are you in the uk?? Maybe they want to see whether you have a low income and need more income to live, as the government gives all uk residents a set amount to live on, if you fall below that threshold then they will top up this with a benefit.
