My plan was to move out of my grandparents house when I turn 18, but that's not until April of next year. They are drving me nuts and I would really like to move out this Aug. What I want to do is rent a house with 3 other rommates (I REALLY hate apartments! but I will get one if that's the only way) What is the "legal" age to rent a house/aparetment in the Salt Lake Utah area? Is there any way I would be "approved" if I'm 17? Plus there's the thing on roommates, I doubt anyone would want me as a roommate if I'm still a minor and they think I won't pay my part of the rent. Please, I need advice!

What everyone above said is correct with one exception. You would be considered emancipated if you became pregnant. Please do not misunderstand what Im saying, this is in no way a suggestion, it's merely informational.

You cannot legally enter into any contract under the age of 18 unless you are legally emancipated and declared a legal adult. That is the law in all fifty states.

If you can find friends who will trust you, perhaps you can pull this off, but I think your chances are slim to none. Do remember that there are laws against harboring an underage person, should the legal guardians contact the authorities.

No one will give you an apartment if you're 17. There are a lot of legal issues. As well, you have no credit at 17. A land lord won't rent to some one with NO credit. Bad credit is better than absolutley no credit.
Sorry, you're going to have to suck it up for another year.

you need to be 18 in most states to sign a lease, however if you have friends who are 18 and are going to live with you then you don't have to sign anything. Just be sure that the lease your friend is signing doesn't have any rules about having minors in the house, living in the house, hours of visitation by minors and so on. Sounds strange? it's not, I put that in the leases to my apartments.
Also be aware, if you are not on the lease, you can be thrown out by, your landlord, or who ever did sign the lease.

You have to be 18 to sign a contract unless someone cosigns with you.
