(5a -3b)(2a +4b)
Multiply each of the terms in the first bracket by the second bracket.
(5a -3b)(2a +4b)
= (5a)*(2a +4b) + (-3b)*(2a +4b)
= 10a^2 + 20ab - 6ab - 12b^2
= 10a^2 +14ab - 12b^2
Don't factor out anything here (such as 2, even though it would be correct and 'prettier'). The point was to expand the 2 brackets.

You have (5a -3b)(2a +4b).

Now, if you expand out, you get:
5a*2a+5a*4b-3b*2a-3b*4b,

which is:
10a^2+20ab-6ab-12b^2

Simplify, you get

(5a -3b)(2a +4b) = 10a^2+14ab-12b^2

REMOVE THE BRACKETS

5a*2a + 5a*4b - 3b*2a - 3b * 4b= 10a2+20ab-6ab-12b2

=10a2+14ab-12b2
