i have an 88 firebird 305 TBI. i wanted to pull off the stock exaust manifold and put headers on but there are three copper hoses on the manifold. and the o2 sensor. im not sure if pulling off the hoses will hurt anything.

They are not EGR related...they are for air-injection...there is an air-injection pump on the motor than pumps pressured air into these tubes in your manifold and this air helps to burn any un-burned fuel in the exhaust to lower emissions. I believe there are some companies that produce headers with ports for these tubes and the oxygen sensor as well to keep the car emission-legal....if you remove them, the car will probably fail any emission test for getting your license plates renewed. If you do intend to re-install them, be very careful removing them as they usually are corroded in place and you may wind up replacing them. Also, make sure the check valves attached to the hoses are ok or they can allow hot exhaust gases to back up in the system and melt the hoses causing an exhaust leak.

They are the EGR components. It is an essential part of the emissions system for your vehicle. It is a federal crime to remove any emissions equipent from your vehicle. With out it your car will not run correctly and or pass inspection.
