The monkey on my back. I can ignore him, hide him, even try to get rid of him. I feel I have some control. I cannot control the gorilla in the room, nor can I hide or ignore him. He is everywhere I look, clouding my vision and blocking my way.

I see them both as problems.

To take care of the problems, the gorilla would be the easiest. Just walk out of the room and leave him behind, problem and all. Gorilla is a problem when you are there.

However the monkey on your back is firmly attached to you. Much harder to remove. The monkey is an addiction.

Definitely the monkey on my back.

See, a gorilla could sit in a corner and possibly be ignored. I could turn my back... change my position... and almost pretend he's not there.

But me. I wear the monkey. He's attached and always has my attention. He's a weight and I can't pretend he's not there. His weight is a discomfort. I'm almost glad, because I may try to ignore the gorilla in the room forever. But the monkey makes me want to fight the issue so I can breathe again...

The gorilla, without a doubt. Heck, the Monkey is so small I rarely even notice it's there.

~~~ I had a monkey on my back for years. I finally dumped him, so I know better than to allow "Primates" back into my house.~~~
