What do you all think about "departmenting" the fish section into catagories like many other topics in Yahoo answers has done? Each of us all have relative experience with different aspects of this hobby which makes our information important to those asking questions. In an example for me, I don't have any knowledge to share on Salt Water enviroment, but I keep Arowana's and Gourami's and have a good background in Chemistry. I wouldn't even try to answer something in Salt water myself. I just thought maybe if we had our "resident experts" in certain areas, maybe we could facilitate answers better and more effeciently? Anyone think this is worth our time to petition yahoo about? Objections?

P.S. There really are no wrong answers here, just a matter of getting opinons and idea's to see what the general consensus might think, all input is valued and appreicated.

I wouldn't object, but don't really love the idea either... kind of in the middle on it I guess. The only real problems I can see is that 1) it could be really hard to tell in which category a question should be asked...depending on the categories of course. and 2) it would make it more difficult for people with multiply specialties to keep up with the flow of the questions and 3) sometimes specialties over lap. Example: you say you have a good background in chemistry, well, you could answer some saltwater questions dealing with salinity, pH, hardness etc, but also say you wouldn't answer salt questions and wouldn't be looking in the salt area to answer those. Some asker might get a really bad answer because someone that could have answered it missed it.
Just my two cents to start the ball rolling.

I agree with magic man that it's a bad idea, besides trying to determine what categories questions go in, I know things about different types of fish and I don't want to have to wade through a whole lot of different categories when I am answering questions.I also find the fish section doesn't always have as many questions as some of the other categories anyway.

I'd say no. It will make it harder to find questions you will answer. Say you broke it down to freshwater and saltwater. How many people will put gold fish in the saltwater category? I'd guess more than a few. I don't know a heck of a lot about saltwater, so I'd probably ignore it. Then people wouldn't get the benefit of having as many answers as possible.

I can see splitting it up into freshwater and saltwater but not any further. People may not know if their fish is a Cichlid or something else. May get a little confusing with lots of categories. I say yes to splitting fresh and saltwater up but no more than that.

i think this is an excellent Idea, I had the same Idea in mind. I like freshwater fish and saltwater fish. Though I know more about freshwater fish than salthwater fish I want to learn more about people's experience of saltwater fish.

Go for it !
There are many "specialists" on Yahoo that do give very good answers. It might be easier for those with questions to find a particular answer to their specific issue as well before having to post their own question.
