Nuclear power is a ready solution to reducing green house gas emissions. Unlike renewable energy sources (wind, solar, tidal, etc), it is viable, cost-effective and available using today's technology. Environmental groups have, for better or for worse, decided to oppose ALL nuclear power on the basis of principle. One wonders, if the dangers of global warming are so incredibly dire and catastrophic as environmentalists like to warn us, then they would want to keep all options open on the table.

No it does not increase global warming . Global warming does not exist it is a scam to cripple the USA. They first said CO2 was what was the cause but GOD put plants here to do that exact thing. The plants take in the CO2 and give us back the O2. The plants need the CO2 just as much as u need oxygen . The plants keep the C to make its food out of and in many cased that is where we get our energy force so that we can do things.Methane is a big joke . Methane is a very light gas and rises very high and at that altitude the sun is intense enough to cause oxidation . Can u find any large lakes of methane in our upper atmosphere ?? I don't think u can . If these gases are not there then neither is global warming.

It depends on how the energy is used and how the spent fuel rods are handled. I would say that nuclear power itself does not increase the effects, but its use is associated with objects that cause an increase in the factors that are assumed to create global warming. There is excess steam that is released, but that is simply water vapor.

The bottom line is there would be a net decrease in the production of CO2, H20, Methane, Unburned hydrocarbons (HC), and Sulfuric and Nitric Oxides. There would also be a decrease in the amount of Uranium and radon released due to not burning coal.
The steam produced is from water already in existence and is not newly generated from combustion.
The electricity generated can charge electric cars and power electric cars and reduce transportation generated gases. The decrease in cost of electricity will reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and drive prices of fuel (due to market forces) and fuel related products down.

Theoretically, by using nuclear power, we won't increase warming effects by adding more greenhouse gases. Those fear mongering global warming overwhelming oppose nuclear power because it is not about global warming. It is about changing our culture to a less consumption and ownership to a more egalitarian, ride bicycles, where flowers in our hair, and worship Al Gore, society.
