Of course you are not. But some people devote themselves to worthwhile causes to such an extent that they become completely emotionally involved and they will be responding to Maddie's disappearance almost as if she were their own child. This is quite a beautiful human quality and shows a great deal of empathy. But I do think that more than one view on the situation is perfectly acceptable. They might not.
