could be thrush, an oral yeast infection. its a common conrition for babies, and usually painless, but it can cause a breast infection in the mother. Call his dr to get it looked at.

Well you cant prevent it, but what I would do is wash the baby's teeth (well more like gums), twice a day everyday with a special little finger mitten tooth brush and baby orajel toothpaste. If its milk the problem should dissapear, but It might be a fungal infection in the baby's mouth that can be make white cottony spots. If the problem doesn't go away by brushing the baby's mouth I'd suggest taking him to the pediatritian.
Good Luck.

Sounds like thrush. My baby had this and so did I. The docs gave me Nystatin, it didn't work at all. So a lactation consultant recommended we try Gentian Violet, which we used and it worked wonders. Except for making a very purple baby and mom.
Personally I would MUCH rather use Gentian Violet than oral Nystatin. The GV is a very powerful, rich intense purple dye, and it is an antifungal. When applied topically it kills the yeast (or thrush). It also soothes the pain associated with a yeast infection. It worked for me when Nystatin failed.

Yes, I did expereince that with one of my children. It was actually the type of formula I was feeding her. It rubbed off easily with a wet towel. But, it could also be thrush. Thrush is a yeast infection in babys mouth and is very painful. If your baby is exposed to other children or has been on antibiotics, or seems to be feeding poorly or in pain, I would check with your babys doctor. A sure test for thrush is if the white doesn't rub off of babys tongue.

If it's something other than thrush, you will be able to scrape it off with a wooden tongue blade. Thrush will not scrape off. Your doctor will give you a liquid to put in baby's mouth to make it go away. The earlier the treatment the better. Good job noticing the symptom!

I think that it is thrush. You should never let the milk build up in his/her mouth. I used to take like a wet baby's rag and wipe my son's mouth out. They always worked. When the baby is older and drinking water you won't have to worry about it cuz it will clean automatic.

This sounds like Thrush, as everyone has said. It needs to be treated. Take your baby to the doctor! Yeast is a pain to deal with, and can spread to other areas.

That could be thrush, a yeast infection of the mouth which can happen in breastfed babies, and maybe in formula fed, I'm not sure I just breastfed. You should let your child's pediatrician look at it.

With both my children, I always during their bath time I gently took a bash wash cloth and cleaned their gums and the roof of their mouth, etc because of that. The doctor will tell you to rinse their mouth like that. It is so good for their teeth since you can't brush their gums just yet. Believe me, it works.
