Preparing To Measure
For best results, measure yourself wearing an unlined or lightly lined bra.
Step One: Band Size
Using a soft tape-measure, measure around the ribcage directly under the bust. The tape should rest on the lower band of your bra. Be sure the tape is snug, smooth across the back and level with the front.
Add 5 to this measurement to obtain your band size. For example, if your ribcage measurement is 29" + (5) = 34" band size. If the resulting band size is an odd number like 33", you can usually go to the next even band size (34"), but you may also want to try the next lower band size (32").
Step Two: Cup Size
Measure completely around the bust at the fullest point, holding the tape measure straight but not tight. The difference between this measurement and your BAND size is your cup size. Each inch of difference is equal to one cup size. For example, if your band size is 34" and your bust measurement is 35", you wear an "A" cup.
if the difference is:
less than 1 inch = AA cup
1 inch = A cup
2 inches = B cup
3 inches = C cup
4 inches = D cup
5 inches = DD cup
While this method is generally reliable, every woman's figure is different and results may vary slightly. You can also visit a Victoria's Secret Store near you for a free personal bra consultation.

This is actually a really great question. Did you know that 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra? I used to be one, but after I started working at Victoria's Secret I got measured and now my bras are sooooo much more comfortable.
First, make sure you have a fabric or sewing tape measure. This might sound like a given, but I have seen people measure themselves with a metal tape measure that you find in a tool box! The fabric measure is better because it can curve better and give you a more accurate reading.
You are going to take two measurements. The first is around you chest, as high up under your armpits as you can. Everything should be a comfort measurement, so don't pull really tight, but don't leave it super loose either. I would do this in front of a mirror to make sure the tape measure isn't falling down or slacking in the back. Whatever measurement you get is your band size, like 34 for a 34B bra. If you come up with an odd number, round up.
Make sure you are wearing a bra for the second measurement, but preferably not one with a lot of padding. This time, measure around your body again, going over the largest part (middle) of your breast. You will get a higher number, and this time don't round it if it is an odd number.
Ready for some math? Subtract the first measurement from the second. For example, let's say you got 34 for your band measurement, and 36 when you measured over your breast. 36 - 34 = 2. This is your cup size. If you had gotten 1, you're an A, 2 a B, 3 a C, and so on.
It is way easier and much more accurate if someone helps you with these measurements, like a friend or family member. Or, you can always go to a Victoria's Secret (other stores probably do it too) and get measured. Its free and only takes a couple seconds. And the sales reps there can help you find a certain type of bra, like if you're looking for one that makes you look bigger/smaller, a comfy one, a strapless, whatever. I know they are a bit pricey, but at the very least you can get an idea of what you like and what to look for at other stores.

Using a tape measure, wrap around the bustline, that's the size in inches, e.g., 32, 36, 48. The cup size is harder for one to measure...you basically have to try on a few for that.

We are almost always wrong about our own bra size…hundreds of women walk around with a poorly fitting bra (guilty as charged). I go to Victoria's Secret (the first poster recommended JC Penney, which is a GREAT idea) and get myself measured. It feels good to have on a bra that fits, and you'll definitely know the difference. And congrats on your first bra! My mother took me to Mervyn's in the summer of 1986 for mine. I was embarrassed too, but you'll laugh about it later as I do now :o)

You measure yourself without any clothes on. You measure around your body in the back and in the front; you measure across your breast right above or below your nipples. That's how they measured me. I don't know how they know what cup size. I guess you just try a couple on until you find one that fits. The sales person know what to do.

The measurement around your chest under your breasts rounded up, add four if it is an even number, five if it is an odd number.
The measurement around the fullest area of your nipples rounded up to the highest number. Subtract the measurement around your chest, and you'll have the band size.
1"=A 2"=B 3"=C etc.
Or you could go to Sears, JCPenney or Nordstrom's and get sized there (not victoria secret).

Honestly i would go to a bra shop and get fitted by them personally. It you are worried bring your mum or a trusted female friend. they measure you and fit you correctly with the right bra.
The wrong bra is only bad for you. Get someone who knows what they are doing and have done it a hundred times before..
Good luck

Honestly, your best bet is to go to a department store, such as Sears or JCPenney, and have the woman in the lingerie section measure you. It may be a little embarrassing at first, but it's better than buying a bra that doesn't fit quite right.
